Date: 11/6/2021 Location: Ellsworth, ME Pizza ordered: classic cheese & emerald dragon Website: dragonfirepizzame.com/ Dragonfire Pizza is a solid pizza joint located in a strip mall on the outskirts of downtown Ellsworth. Inside you'll see positively medieval wall decor and an expansive menu with many options. They just so happened to have fresh slices when I arrived, so I decided to try their classic cheese pizza and the "Emerald Dragon" pizza.
The classic cheese has an excellent, thin, crispy base with some sufficiently good sauce and cheese. One of the best parts is the woody, smoky crust and base resulting from the nice charring from the oven. The Emerald Dragon pizza was a nice experience! I don't usually like spinach on pizza, but Dragonfire hit it out of the park with this one. The creamy ricotta and fresh mozzarella pair beautifully and taste of garlicky goodness. The base is thin and crisp with the same great toasting on the plain slice, but the crust has a slight fluffiness that leads to a great pizza experience. I'm very happy with the pizza from Dragonfire and would definitely visit again!

Date: December 30, 2023 Location: Damariscotta, ME Pizza Ordered: Johnny Fontane, OPC Margherita, and Lisa Simpson Phone Number: (207) 563-6816 Left: OPC Margherita | Right: Johnny Fontane | Bottom: Lisa Simpson Oysterhead Pizza Company is a small, wood-fired pizza shop located in downtown Damariscotta. On a side street, you'll find a dedicated parking area with a few spaces. Outside, you'll find a nice seating area for when the weather is nice. When you walk through the doors, you're greeted with a welcoming smoky, fireplace smell that serves as a reminder that you're about to eat some deliciouswood-fired pizza. Inside, the lighting is warm. The seating area is small, but it's cozy. The staff is very friendly and quick to make recommendations for drinks and pizza. They do have slices at the counter, but I definitely recommend waiting for a fresh pie.
During our visit, I ordered two small pizzas: the Johnny Fontane and the OPC Margherita pizza. My wife went with the Lisa Simpson (vegan pizza). While waiting for the pizza, I enjoyed a tasty beer from a Maine craft brewery. There are a number of local craft beers available, along with ciders, non-alcoholic beers, and sodas. The pizza looked incredible when it came to our table. The Johnny Fontane was colorful and vibrant. It had a pleasant spice from the fresh jalapenos which paired well with the sweetness of the sauce. The base of the pizza was perfectly crisp and thin. The crust was fluffy, light, and airy. I feel like I could eat a ton of this pizza without filling up because of the lightness of the dough. The Lisa Simpson was chock full of fresh ingredients with a very tasty sauce and a lovely seasoning spread throughout (but most noticeable when eating the crust). The kale was prepared perfectly: not soggy and not burned to a crisp - just right! The vegan cheese was tastefully applied. Often, adding too much vegan cheese will add a gooeyness to pizza that isn't ideal, but the folks over at Oysterhead Pizza Company do it right. The OPC Margherita has exceptional flavor. The garlic puree adds a spicy medley of flavor to an already outstanding sauce and delicious fresh mozzarella. The fresh basil is a nice touch. I seriously can't stop eating this pie, despite being full. Overall, Oysterhead Pizza Company earns high marks for delicious pizza, great service, and an excellent atmosphere. I will definitely be returning to dine outside in the summer months. Date: 6/14/2023 Location: Biddeford, ME Pizza Ordered: Plain cheese pizza Website: www.amatos.com/location/biddeford/ I stopped at Amato's with an appetite after spending the day at a training workshop for work. The store was clean and the staff were very friendly. I decided to get a personal plain cheese pizza.
The pizza featured a thin, crispy crust and a delicious sauce. The cheese was perfectly toasted to light brown perfection and had a pleasant, buttery taste. The personal pie was just what I needed before making the trip home. I would happily stop at Amato's again. Date: 10/21/2022 Location: Hartland, ME Pizza ordered: cheese pie Website: www.facebook.com/HometownPizzaHartland Hometown Pizza is as the name implies: a warm, welcoming, local, family pizzeria. The staff is friendly and attentive. The pizzeria is quiet, but features plenty of seating for larger parties. I ordered a classic plain cheese pie. The pizza featured a soft, fluffy dough and base with a flavorful sauce and excellent, toasted cheese (perfectly browned). The slices had great flavor and were just what I needed to warm me up on a chilly, rainy day.
Radici in Portland, Maine, is a unique pizza experience. Unlike your stock pizzeria, this establishment focuses on sourdough pizza that is made with local flour, hand mixed, and naturally leavened. For my order, I went with their staple Margherita slice. The slice boasted an excellent structure, thanks to the nice, airy gluten networks in the crust. The charring was just right, and it added a smoky depth that elevated the overall taste. The cheese melted nicely and toasted in a few areas which combined flavors well with the sweet sauce and the fresh basil. Radici's commitment to sourcing local ingredients shines through in every aspect of its sourdough pizza. The love and care that goes into the crafting of their pies is something to be admired. I would recommend Radici if you're looking for an artisanal pizza experience! Date: 01/13/2022 Location: Brewer, ME Pizza ordered: Classic Plain Website: littlecaesars.com/en-us/store/10745 Look, does it compare to a neighborhood pizza joint from New Jersey? Absolutely not. But do they make decent pizza at affordable prices that's ready super fast? Yes, they do. I've ordered a few times from this spot and I've never had any issues (ordering on their website).
The Chicago-style pizza is super fluffy and airy with a nice, sweet sauce. Their standard cheese pizza is decent enough. The crust is fluffy and the base has a good structure. The sauce is on the acidic side and the cheese is decent enough. All in all, I can't really complain. I don't come to Little Ceasars for a neighborhood pizza experience, I come for cheap eats, prepared quickly to satisfy my craving. Date: 4/20/2022 and 12/27/2022 Location: Augusta, ME Pizza Ordered: Build your own - red sauce, mozzarella, and IPA Caramelized Onions (Also tried a pizza with vegan cheese and red peppers) Website: www.cushnocbrewing.com/ Cushnoc serves up a decent pizza. They have a variety of specials or you can opt to build your own. I decided to build my own with red sauce, mozzarella cheese, and the IPA caramelized onions. I have to say, these carmelized onions are perfectly sweet and delicious. They make a top-notch topping. The pizza itself features a soft, thin, light, airy base and a chewy, charred, also airy crust. The red sauce is flavorful and really elevates the pizza.
I also really appreciate that they offer vegan cheese as an option. My wife ordered a pie with vegan cheese and red onions and the cheese wasn't overly gooey (a common weakness for vegan cheeses). It was a good pie and it reheated well the next day too! You should know that the building tends to run a bit cold and sometimes, depending on where you sit, you'll get an air current. I also wish they served flights, but they do at least offer small samples you can try before ordering. Overall, I've had nothing but good experiences at Chushnoc and can definitely recommend it to anyone looking for pizza and beer in the Augusta area. Date: 6/25/2022 Location: Newburgh, ME Pizza ordered: Plain I finally arrived to Dysarts at a time when they put out a fresh pizza, and overall I was fairly satisfied with my experience. The pizza itself was decent - the crust was soft and fluffy, and the cheese and sauce were tasty. The base of the pizza was reminiscent of cafeteria pizza and left a bit to be desired. Overall, I didn't hate it.
Date: 09/12/2021 Location: Kennebunk Service Plaza (Southbound) Sbarro Pizza Ordered: Plain I stopped into Sbarro for a quick slice of pizza and got about what I was expecting. While the slice was certainly large and filling, it was also quite greasy and oily. The crust wasn't particularly crispy or flavorful, and the cheese and sauce seemed a bit bland and underseasoned. Overall, it's not the best slice I've had, but in a pinch, it will do.
Date: 12/18/2021 Location: Holden, ME Pizza ordered: Plain cheese Website: www.facebook.com/patspizzaholden/ I recently had the pleasure of trying Pat's Pizza for the first time, and I was impressed by their bar-style pizza. Both the base and crust were perfectly thin and crispy. The cheese and sauce went all the way to the edge of the pizza, just like any good bar pie should. The cheese itself was nicely browned and full of flavor, and the sauce was fresh and perfectly balanced. Overall, I was impressed with Pat's Pizza and would recommend it to anyone in search of a delicious, thin-crust pie.
