Date: 10/21/2022 Location: Hartland, ME Pizza ordered: cheese pie Website: www.facebook.com/HometownPizzaHartland Hometown Pizza is as the name implies: a warm, welcoming, local, family pizzeria. The staff is friendly and attentive. The pizzeria is quiet, but features plenty of seating for larger parties. I ordered a classic plain cheese pie. The pizza featured a soft, fluffy dough and base with a flavorful sauce and excellent, toasted cheese (perfectly browned). The slices had great flavor and were just what I needed to warm me up on a chilly, rainy day.

Radici in Portland, Maine, is a unique pizza experience. Unlike your stock pizzeria, this establishment focuses on sourdough pizza that is made with local flour, hand mixed, and naturally leavened. For my order, I went with their staple Margherita slice. The slice boasted an excellent structure, thanks to the nice, airy gluten networks in the crust. The charring was just right, and it added a smoky depth that elevated the overall taste. The cheese melted nicely and toasted in a few areas which combined flavors well with the sweet sauce and the fresh basil. Radici's commitment to sourcing local ingredients shines through in every aspect of its sourdough pizza. The love and care that goes into the crafting of their pies is something to be admired. I would recommend Radici if you're looking for an artisanal pizza experience! Date: 6/18/2023
Location: I-95 Northbound - Lexington Service Plaza, Lexington, MA Pizza ordered: Plain slice Date: 8/7/2021 Location: Caldwell, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain slice & square slice Website: getangelonis.com/ I'm glad I made the trip out to Angeloni's Restaurant & Pizzeria in Caldwell, NJ. This area is filled with good pizza and Angeloni's fits that bill! Parking is mostly on the street and the inside of the restaurant at the time I visited was buzzing with activity. I grabbed pizza to go so I could miss the weekend crowd.
The pizza itself is perfectly thin and has an excellent, crispy base. The sauce is tasty and of very good quality. The standard pie features a thin layer of this delicious sauce topped with a toasty, greasy cheese that you can't get enough of. The square pizza has many of the same features but comes with a fluffier base/crust and more awesome sauce. I'm a fan of Angeloni's and would recommend it to anyone looking for a thin, crispy pizza! I was in town for a conference and managed to find some seating at the bar on a busy Tuesday night. The restaurant was bustling with activity and conversation. The waiter got me set up with an apple old fashioned while I perused the menu. The cocktail was smooth and tasty with a balance of tartness and sweetness. The bitters added a nice spice.
After enjoying a bit of the drink, I decided to order the Arancini for a starter and the Geno Pizza as my main dish. The Arancini was incredible. Fried, cheesy, and delicious are all perfect descriptors. The sweet, rich tomato sauce paired nicely and the shaved parmesan added a great touch of flavor. The Geno Pizza featured a bready crust that reminded me of the quality dinner rolls. The cheese was creamy and buttery and the pizza overall was oily, garlicy, and had a slight spiciness. The fresh basil shreds complimented the dish perfectly. The bartenders and servers were all very attentive, polite, and professional. I have to give props to Nelson and Beth for taking good care of me. Forno Bistro was a great experience and I'll happily be dining there next time I'm in town. My party joined up with another group already sitting down at Wheatfields. Fortunately, they were able to accommodate us too. Service was slightly delayed, but nothing completely unmanageable. The server was definitely polite and helpful. I decided to go with the margherita pizza. The pizza was decent. Instead of sauce, this margherita featured fresh tomatoes which added a sweetness to the pie. I wish there were a few more tomatoes to balance out the cheese. The crust and base were thin and bready. The base of the pizza had a heavier coat of cornmeal than I'm used too, but it didn't overpower things too much. Overall, Wheatfields is a decent spot, though I might opt for pasta if I visit again.
Conte's serves up a great pie and is one of my go-to's in the Princeton area. The pizza has a crisp, cracker-thin crust. The cheese is greasy and delicious. This is the kind of pizza you pair with a few drinks with friends. I also loved the rich, thick tomato sauce. It was flavor-packed and balanced well with the oily, saltiness of the cheese.
The staff was friendly, the service was quick, and they have plenty of seating. The long, wide bar table can fit a bunch of people in the event that table space is all filled up. Overall, I'm definitely a fan of Conte's. Date: 10/23/2021 Location: Somerset, NJ Pizza ordered: Plain and Tomato slices Website: stevespizzasomerset.com/ I recently stopped by and tried both the cheese pizza and the tomato slice, and I have to say, they did not disappoint.
The cheese pizza had a fluffy crust that was just the right thickness, not too thin and not too thick. The sauce was decent, not too sweet or tangy, and the cheese was definitely the star of the show. It was gooey and delicious, with just the right amount on top. Overall, it was a solid cheese pizza that hit the spot. The tomato slice was also a standout. The base was thin and crispy, and the juicy, fresh tomatoes added a great flavor profile. It was the perfect choice for a lighter option that still satisfied my pizza cravings. While the atmosphere at Steve's Pizza is nothing fancy, the pizza more than makes up for it. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. If you're looking for a classic pizza joint that serves up tasty, no-nonsense pizza, Steve's Pizza is definitely worth a visit. Date: 01/13/2022 Location: Brewer, ME Pizza ordered: Classic Plain Website: littlecaesars.com/en-us/store/10745 Look, does it compare to a neighborhood pizza joint from New Jersey? Absolutely not. But do they make decent pizza at affordable prices that's ready super fast? Yes, they do. I've ordered a few times from this spot and I've never had any issues (ordering on their website).
The Chicago-style pizza is super fluffy and airy with a nice, sweet sauce. Their standard cheese pizza is decent enough. The crust is fluffy and the base has a good structure. The sauce is on the acidic side and the cheese is decent enough. All in all, I can't really complain. I don't come to Little Ceasars for a neighborhood pizza experience, I come for cheap eats, prepared quickly to satisfy my craving. Date: 08/07/2021 Location: Verona, NJ Pizza ordered: Brooklyn, Grandma, and Drunken Grandma Website: www.thepizzaterminalrestaurant.com/ Pizza Terminal has been getting some love in the New Jersey Pizza community, so I decided to give it a chance. I certainly wasn't disappointed. Everything at the counter looked so delicious, but I settled on three slices: the Brooklyn, the Grandma, and a Drunken Grandma.
The Brooklyn slice featured some deliciously sweet caramelized onions and a delicious sauce. The slice also had a crisp base and a fluffy interior. The Grandma had a slightly thinner base but was also incredibly delicious. The interior was super fluffy, but the crisp base provided a good structure. The soft, fluffy, bready crust really blew me away. The Drunken Grandma featured a cheesy, creamy sauce on the same wonderful crisp base. All of the slices were fluffy, yet light and airy. If I wasn't saving room for a few other pizza stops on my pizza crawl, I would have ordered a few more slices! |
